After having good experiences with them in broad-gauge armored trains, the standard BP 42 was also equipped with two tank-carrier cars that had removable Prage 38(t) tanks. The tub-shaped cars, along with a folding armored shield, provided protection for the running gear. To remove the tank, the pusher car ahead had to be uncoupled, and an automatic Scharfenberg coupling was provided.
